History

Foothills Bobsleigh was founded on November 16,1984 as a a lead up to the 1988 Olympics to be held in Calgary at the new bobsleigh and luge track destined to be built at Canada Olympic Park.  The year up to and for a number of years after the membership balloned as people became interested in the sport of bobsleigh either as a recreational or competitive slider or as a volunteer official. Many of its members took part in the 1988 Olympic games as volunteers at the bobsleigh event.

Since that time the club has provided an opportunity for individuals of all ages and genders to be involved in the fastest sport on ice.   From its initial beginning where the club had three two man sleds in its inventory it has grown considerably to where it now has sixteen 2 man bobsleighs and six 4 man bobsleighs.

Many of our  past and active sliding members have gone on to achieve greatly in the sport of bobsleigh
either as members of the Alberta Bobsleigh team or on the national program with Bobsleigh Canada.

This past 2010 marked the second time an Olympic games was held in Canada at Whistler British Columbia.   Foothills Bosbleigh takes great pride in recognizing the achievement of some of our members, Kallie Humphries, Gold medalist in the ladies 2 man, Helen Upperton  Silver medalist in the ladies 2 man and Lyndon Rush and David Bisset Bronze Medalist in the men's 4 man event
